Small Plane Crashes In Ventura County; 2 Killed

FILLMORE (CBS) — Two people were killed Thursday after a small plane crashed near Route 126 between Santa Clarita and Fillmore.

The single-engine aircraft went down around 1:30 p.m. about 3 miles east of Piru and 100 yards north of Highway 126, according to Ventura County Fire Capt. Steve Swindle.

Both the pilot and the occupant were pronounced dead on the scene, Swindle said.

The plane crashed just 75 yards from nearby ranch homes, but no one on the ground was injured.

The aircraft type is identified as a single-engine Ultralight Sting Sport.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
