Thefts Of Air Conditioning Units From Vacant Homes On The Rise

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Police say there's been an increase in thefts of air conditioning units taken from vacant homes.

Los Angeles police's Devonshire Division issued an advisory Tuesday to notify the public of the increase in thefts of air conditioning units, along with a spike in stolen vehicles, car break-ins and bicycle thefts.

Neighbors near vacant homes were asked to be vigilant and were also advised to remove all valuables from vehicles. Police also recommended the use of locking devices to secure cars and bicycles.

Suspicious activity can be reported to the LAPD's direct dispatch center at 877-275-5273.
