Cathedral City Officer Able To Save 4 Of 7 Puppies Found Hidden In Box

CATHEDRAL CITY (CBS) —  An officer on patrol Sunday in a Cathedral City neighborhood found four puppies living in a box, along with three others that already were dead, a police spokesman said.

The officer was on a routine patrol in the area of San El Jay Drive and 30th Avenue shortly after midnight when he heard puppies crying, according to Cathedral City police Sgt. Corwin de Veas.

He found the box hidden behind some oleanders. The living puppies, about 4-6 weeks old, were malnourished and weak, de Veas said.

Cathedral City police officers were temporarily caring for the puppies until they can be taken to a shelter, de Veas said.

Police asked anyone who has information about who abandoned the puppies to call (760) 770-0303.
