CASTAIC (CBS) — Authorities say a 16-year old male, who was in Southern California vacationing from Russia, died after a collision of two watercraft at Pyramid Lake in Castaic Sunday afternoon.

The crash occurred at 3:45PM.

Officials say that the boy was riding a Wave Runner when he hit a  twenty-one foot ski boat being piloted by a friend, a 30-year-old also vacationing from Russia.

The ski boat operator jumped into the water to assist his friend who was now face down motionless in the water.  A second passenger on the Wave Runner, also a 30-year-old male from Russia, was also injured and struggling in the water.

The 16-year-old was declared dead at the scene about a half hour after the crash.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Parks Bureau arrived and placed both victims onto their boat. They administered CPR to the 16-year old victim who was not breathing. The other victim was airlifted by Los Angeles County Fire to a nearby hospital. He’s in critical condition.

The exact cause of the 16-year-old’s death is unknown. The victim suffered multiple injuries as a result of the collision.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in this accident.
