Family And Friends Grieve For Bride-To-Be Killed By Alleged Drunk Driver

NORTHRIDGE (CBS) —  The family of a bride-to-be is grieving Friday evening.

That bride-to-be was to be a bride Saturday. Instead, her family is now planning for her funeral.

Griselda Sandoval, 25, was allegedly killed by a motorist suspected of DUI.

Sandoval's family and friends are trying to keep their faith. But they are heartbroken, and, understandably emotional.

Her sister Maricela said, "At this time, there are no tears coming out of me because there is so much anger in my heart."

Monday night, Griselda and her 18-year-old brother were on their way to her apartment to pick up her work uniform. They were headed west on Parthenia Street, west of Corbin Avenue, when a car coming in the opposite direction crashed into their vehicle. The driver of the other car smashed into the passenger's side where Griselda was sitting.

Sandoval was killed at the scene.

Maricela says, "Seeing the car broke my heat. I screamed. I couldn't believe my sister was actually dead."

Authorities say the driver of the second car, Valerie Stewart -- a 50-year-old Van Nuys resident -- was driving under the influence. She was booked on a charge of vehicular manslaughter.

Sandoval had a 6-year-old son, reports Rachel Kim for CBS2 and KCAL9.

The deceased woman was working as a hostess and going to school to work in child development. She died just days before her family was to be complete.

Instead of a wedding dress, Sandoval will now be dressed in the clothes she will be buried in.

Maricela says, "It's just not right for people to drink and drive and take people's lives away."

(A memorial fund has been set up to help the deceased woman's family. Contact: Chase Bank, attn. Maricela Sandoval, account # 475199464, routing number 322271627.)
