NORWALK (CBS) — A fire in a Norwalk condo led authorities to the discovery of 2,000 pounds of marijuana Thursday evening.
Firefighters initially responded around 6 p.m. to a residence in the 12000 block of Cheshire Street that had smoke coming out of the windows.
Investigators say the fire was started by burning food left on the stove, however no one was home when it began.
After the fire was extinguished, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies discovered 2,000 pounds of packaged marijuana in several rooms of the condo.
The drugs were seized, but officials have been unable to locate the suspects. An investigation into the owner of the condo is underway.
The street value of the marijuana could be more than $6 million, sheriff’s officials said.
