Delahoussaye To Get His Own Race At Santa Anita Race Track

 ARCADIA, Calif. (CBS/AP) -- Hall of Fame jockey Eddie Delahoussaye is getting his own race called "Eddie D. Stakes".

Santa Anita will feature the Grade 3 Eddie D. Stakes on opening day of the track's autumn meet on Sept. 28.

"This is a great honor," said Delahoussaye, who resides in Arcadia with his wife, Juanita, daughter Mandy, son Loren and sister Rose Ann, and is active in the Thoroughbred business as a racing and sales consultant. "My family is very excited about it and I am too. This race has a rich history and I want to thank Santa Anita for thinking of me."

The 6 1/2-furlong race for 3-year-olds and up will be run on the turf. The race was previously known as the Morvich Stakes, which Delahoussaye won in 1984 aboard Tsunami Slew.

Delahoussaye says he's honored and his family is excited about the race. He retired in 2003 after a 34-year career because of injury. The 60-year-old lives near the track in Arcadia and is active in the industry as a racing and sales consultant.

Delahoussaye won the Kentucky Derby twice, the Preakness once and the Belmont Stakes twice, along with seven Breeders' Cup races. He rode 6,384 winners.
