SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO (CBS) — A giant dinosaur at an Orange County petting zoo is causing a big debate.
Workers at the Zoomars Petting Zoo in the Los Rios Historic District of San Juan Capistrano put up this 13-foot-tall, 40-foot-long replica of an apatosaurus last week.
The dinosaur is a hit with children, but not so much with the Capistrano Historical Alliance Committee.
The committee filed a complaint about the dinosaur the day after it went up, complaining it was “a mockery of the history of San Juan Capistrano” and that it violates the sacred land near the famous Mission San Juan Capistrano.
The zoo says the dinosaur is “an outstanding learning opportunity for children.”
The San Juan Capistrano City Council has not yet decided whether the dinosaur can stay.
