MONTEREY PARK (CBS) — A fire alarm tipped off authorities last week to a large marijuana growing operation at a home in Monterey Park, officials said.
Monterey Park fire fighters responded to an alarm at home in the 600 block of East Newmark Avenue around 7 a.m. Friday, police said.
When officials arrived on scene, they discovered a small fire near the electrical meter close to the garage.
Upon further investigation, fire and police personnel discovered approximately 300 marijuana plants along with a water system inside the residence, Monterey Park police said.
The plants are estimated to have a street value of $350,000, according to officials.
Circumstances surrounding the marijuana grow are still under investigation. No arrests have been made, police said
