THERMAL (CBS) — A 31-year-old Thermal man was arrested after being accused of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl inside her house, a sheriff’s department spokesman said Saturday.

Alfredo Gallardo Martinez was arrested and booked into the Indio Jail on suspicion of lewd acts with a child and was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, jail records showed.

At about 7:15 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to the report of the sexual assault in the 68000 block of Pierce Street in Thermal, said sheriff’s Sgt. Robert Castro.

“The victim said she had just been sexually assaulted by an acquaintance inside her residence,” Castro said. “The victim ran to a nearby market after the incident, and deputies located and detained the suspect.”
