COSTA MESA (CBS) — An 18-year-old woman remained behind bars on Sunday on suspicion of stabbing her mother with a kitchen knife during an altercation.
A news release issued by Costa Mesa Police said Andrea Quanita Simpson was taken into custody on Friday in connection with the stabbing of 51-year-old Alice Simpson.
According to police, a friend found the elder Simpson suffering of multiple stab wounds to the chest, back and arms. The incident occurred just after 5 p.m. on June 8 in an apartment on Hamilton Street.
The woman was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Police said she was listed in stable condition.
Andrea Quanita Simpson, who reportedly has a history of mental illness, was booked for assault with a deadly weapon. Her bail was set at $25,000.
