Woman, 51, Killed In Long Beach Hit-And-Run

LONG BEACH (CBS) — A 51-year-old woman was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Saturday evening in Long Beach, according to authorities.

The accident was reported around 9:50 p.m. at the intersection of Anaheim Street and Linden Avenues, said the Long Beach Police department.

The woman -- whom police said sustained major injuries -- was taken to a hospital where she was declared dead.

The early investigation indicated the suspect was driving west on Anaheim Street when the motorist struck the victim.

The unidentified woman was trying to get to the west side of Linden Avenue when she was hit.

Police said the suspect and a passenger got out of the vehicle, checked on the woman and then got back in the car and fled the scene.

The suspect vehicle was described as a black four-door Honda which police said likely sustained moderate to major front end damage. The car also now has a broken headlight.

The driver was described as a Latino in his mid 20s wearing a white shirt. The passenger was described as a Latina with shoulder-length hair.

Anyone with information about the suspect car or the collision or suspects is asked to contact Accident Investigation Detective Brian Watt at (562) 570-7355.
