Man Found Dead Inside Liquor Store Was Shot In The Head

HAWAIIAN GARDENS (CBS) — Authorities Friday said a man found dead in a liquor store in Hawaiian Gardens had been shot in the head.

The man's body was discovered in the Beer Wine Market in the 12000 block of Carson Street about 4:45 p.m. Monday. He was identified as Hoa Vi Tran, 40, coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter said.

An autopsy determined that Tran had been shot in the head, Winter said.

The man's body was reportedly bound and gagged, but the sheriff's department would not confirm.

"The Lakewood Sheriff's Station received a call of an open store with the lights turned off," Sgt. Pauline Panis of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau said. "When deputies arrived, they searched the store and found the man's body at the rear of the store."

A customer went into the liquor store, which was open, "but he couldn't find a clerk. So he called the sheriff's department," a videographer at the scene Monday told City News Service.
