PALMDALE (CBS) — Officials say a woman in Palmdale has been detained Thursday evening after she allegedly tried to drown her son in a pool.
Witnesses told police the woman was screaming about the world ending and saying, “I have to let you go.”
According to witnesses, the woman began pushing the child repeatedly underwater allegedly trying to drown him in public.
Residents were able to pull the child to safety and call 911 but witnesses say that’s when she jumped back in the pool and tried to kill herself.
The incident occurred in the 2500 block of East Olive Drive in Palmdale about 7:15 p.m.
A distraught woman could be seen on videotape — obtained by KCAL9 — thrashing about as authorities tried to restrain her.
The child, a boy, is believed to be about 6-years-old. The child was taken to an area hospital where he is listed in good condition.
