Mother, 4 Kids Hit By Van In Thousand Oaks Crosswalk

THOUSAND OAKS (CBS) — A family of five was hit by a van Tuesday afternoon as they crossed a busy street in Ventura County.

The accident happened just before 2 p.m. in the 2600 block of Thousand Oaks Boulevard, Thousand Oaks police said.

“A mother and four children were crossing in a controlled crosswalk. The lights were operating, according to witnesses, and a vehicle proceeded through the intersection and hit them,” Steve Swindle of the Ventura County Fire Department told KNX 1070.

The woman and three of her children were transported to Los Robles Medical Center.

Paramedics rushed one child to the hospital in serious condition. The other three victims suffered moderate injuries, according to police.

The fourth child, a baby in a stroller, was not hurt because the mother pushed the stroller out of the way before impact, Swindle said.

The driver of the van stopped and cooperated with police. Authorities do not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.
