Amgen Tour of California’s final stage is this Sunday, May 20 from Beverly Hills to Downtown Los Angeles.
The Amgen Tour of California is an 8-day bicycling race which began on May 13 in Santa Rosa and culminates this Sunday. This race attracts elite athletes and teams from all over the world. The final leg, Stage 8, is a 44.7 mile course starting in Beverly Hills at 10:10am and winding its way through Hollywood to the finish line at LA Live in downtown LA with an expected finish time of 11:50 AM. The winner of the 2012 Amgen Tour of California will be crowned on a special awards stage at L.A. LIVE.
New this year, cycling enthusiasts can live out their “Tour de France” dreams and have the opportunity to participate in “Nissan’s Ride Before the Pros” prior to the pros’ arrival at the finish line. Registration is free and open to participants of all riding levels. The route will begin and end at the official finish line of the Tour of California at LA Live. To register and get more information visit the tour website.
Immediately following the “Ride Before the Pros”, “Amgen’s Breakaway Mile” takes place. This event is an approximately one-mile walk to celebrate cancer survivors. It crosses the Amgen Tour of California finish line just prior to the Tour of California race finish. Those touched by cancer – patients, survivors, caregivers and advocates – are invited to join this free event. “Breakaway Mile” participants are also invited to view the race action from a reserved viewing area near the finish line. Registration is limited.
The Lifestyle Festival, located near the finish line at 1111 South Figeuroa St., is the place to be for all cycling enthusiasts. As the gathering point for all participants, spectators, and vendors, the Festival will feature cycling vendors, cancer awareness education, family activities, food and entertainment.
