LAUSD Teacher's Aide Arrested For Lewd Acts On A Child

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A Los Angeles Unified School District teacher's aide was arrested near Gratts Elementary School Thursday morning.

Jorge Dominguez, who has worked at the school since 2004, was arrested on suspicion of committing lewd acts on a child. Los Angeles police say additional charges are pending.

Police said someone called in to report the alleged sex crimes and told police it was all caught on video.

"We have enough evidence on the video to effect the arrest and book him," LAPD Capt. Fabian Lizarraga said.

A student told KCAL9 that Dominguez worked in the classroom and also helped with several after-school programs, including soccer training.

"He's cool, he's always laughing and joking and running back and forth playing soccer with the kids," said Mary Cano, who used to wave hello to Dominguez when he played soccer on the field.

The school district says it's cooperating with the LAPD's investigation. They said they had no knowledge of the investigation until police notified them of the arrest.

Notes about Dominguez's arrest are being sent home to parents whose children attend the school, which is located in the 300 block of South Lucas Avenue. They announced that more details would be provided at two separate parent meetings Friday.

Police say the alleged victim -- a boy between 12-14 years old -- did not attend Gratts Elementary School.
