RIVERSIDE (CBS) — An investigation was under way Monday after an Inland Empire mother of six was struck and killed by a police cruiser.
The accident occurred just before 8 a.m. Sunday at Madison Street in the Riverside community of Casa Blanca.
The victim, identified as 57-year-old Isabel Pablo Tomas, was killed while crossing the street.
KCAL9 Inland Empire reporter Greg Mills spoke with one of the victim’s sons who says that his family brought her here from Guatemala three years ago so she could enjoy “a better life.”
“It’s painful. It’s my mom and that hurts,” Pedro Tomas said. “We just brought her, you know, three years ago to give her a better life.”
Although police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, they say Tomas was outside the crosswalk at the time.
The officer’s name has not been released.
