Angels Place Torii Hunter On Restricted List

ANAHEIM (CBS) — Angels' star Torii Hunter was placed on the restricted list Monday following the arrest of his 17-year-old son on a sexual assault charge.

A written statement from police in Texas says Darius McClinton-Hunter was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on a minor. The Prosper High School football player was one of five people charged.

"Of course he says he's not guilty. Certainly shaking, he's a 17-year-old kid and the most important thing for us was getting him out of jail as quickly as possible and we did. We posted his bond and he's going home," said Attorney Todd Shapiro.

On Monday afternoon, Hunter met with team management and they decided to place him on the restricted list.

"The most important thing for us is for Torii and his family and whatever he might be going through that we're there to support him," said VP of Communications Tim Mead.

While on the restricted list, Hunter isn't traveling or playing with the team. Management won't say if he's still on the payroll, according to CBS2's Jeff Nguyen.

The move allows them to fill his roster's spot without any penalties.

On Monday, Hunter tweeted, "This is very tough for a father. Thanks for ur prayers and support. Be Blessed Everyone!"

It's unclear how long Hunter's leave will be, management told Nguyen.
