LA PUENTE (CBS) — A major sinkhole developed on a normally-busy street in La Puente Sunday as a result of a damaged water main, sheriff’s officials said.
The 25 foot by 15 foot sinkhole was discovered just before 1 a.m. on North Hacienda Boulevard between Francisquito and Fairgrove avenues, said Sgt. James Beamon of the Industry sheriff’s station.
“The sinkhole was caused by a damaged water main and has been closed off for repairs,” Beamon said in a statement. “It will remain inaccessible for an unknown period of time.”
Sheriff’s officials advised the public to plan alternate travel routes and expect traffic delays. Barricades have been placed in the affected area.
