WEST HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — An armed suspect waged a standoff with police Thursday night inside a trendy clothing store on Robertson Boulevard in a posh part of the West Side.

Police had the store surrounded and a SWAT team was called to the scene.

The suspect apparently messed with the wrong man – a retired police officer, who was having dinner with his girlfriend.

The suspect reported pulled out a knife on the retired officer, who in return drew a gun and gave chase.

The chase ended at Gregory’s where the suspect hid inside a bathroom and began the standoff with police.

The standoff continued for several hours with very little observable activity.

It was not immediately clear what sparked the confrontation between the suspect and the retired officer.
