WHITTIER (CBS) — Authorities are looking for victims of a trio of thieves who stole nearly 200 expensive mountain bicycles with an estimated total value of $250,000.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators arrested Julian Herrera, 23, Jamie Herrera, 21, and Alberto Mejia, 34, in the thefts.
The suspects are facing burglary and conspiracy charges, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.
Investigators said the suspects used Craigslist and Facebook to steal the high-end bicycles, which cost up to $15,000 each.
Detectives said the thieves scanned social media websites to prey on the growing online bicycling community who share photos of their bikes and look for parts on the Internet.
Officials will display 20 recovered bicycles and 40 recovered wheels at a news conference Wednesday and ask victims to come forward and retrieve their property.
