John Wayne Airport Rules Out Bomb Threat Concerning Southwest Flight

SANTA ANA (CBS) — Authorities have cleared a Southwest flight at John Wayne Airport after receiving threats that a bomb had been placed on board.

Authorities said the Phoenix-bound plane has already been searched and the situation no longer posed a threat.

"There was a phone call in to an outside agency who then notified TSA and they informed us about the threat," Lt. Joe Balicki, of the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

The threat involved two Southwest planes, one which had already landed in Phoenix and another headed to Phoenix from Santa Ana.

The first plane was isolated at Phoenix International Airport and crews did not discover a bomb on board.

Authorities in Phoenix notified John Wayne officials about the threat also facing flight 811. Crews searched the flight and, by 10 p.m., they ruled out a bomb threat.
