Motorist Killed After Going Off 605 Freeway And Crashing Into Tree

LOS ALAMITOS (CBS) —  A motorist was killed in a vehicle that went off the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway and crashed into a tree in Los Alamitos Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at 5:58 p.m. on the southbound 605 just south of Katella Avenue, according to the CHP.

Initial reports indicated the white Chevrolet Silverado went off the road and crashed into a tree, killing at least one person inside, according to the CHP.

The far right lane was blocked and a hazardous materials team was dispatched because of a possible spill partially contained in the vehicle's camper shell. Officials later deemed the substance safe.
