Azusa Man, 21, Allegedly Stabs Mother To Death Before Calling Police

AZUSA (CBS) —   A 21-year-old man allegedly stabbed his mother to death in Azusa Friday, then called authorities on himself, police said.

Daniel Pope called police around 9 a.m. to report he had stabbed his mother to death at his home in the 800 block of Russell Street, said Lt. Paul Dennis of the Azusa Police Department.

Pope also told the 911 operator he stabbed his dog.

"The...dispatcher was able to keep (Pope) on the line while police officers and fire department paramedics were dispatched to the location," Dennis said.

When police arrived on the scene Pope exited the home and was taken into custody without incident, Dennis said.

"During a search of the interior of the residence, a female adult victim was found on the floor unconscious with several stab wounds," Dennis said. Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Her name was not released.

The injured dog was taken by the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society for treatment.

Pope was taken to a hospital for treatment of unexplained minor cuts to his body, Dennis said.
