2 Injured When DUI Suspect Collides With Cars During Police Chase

MAYWOOD (CBS) — Two people were injured while police were chasing a DUI suspect who reportedly plowed his car into another vehicle in Maywood Thursday.

The chase began when callers saw a man passed out on the driver's seat of a white GMC Yukon near Clara Park in Cudahy about 2:15 p.m.

As dispatchers were typing in details of the call, the man got up and began driving, almost immediately colliding with two parked cars and sideswiping a third vehicle in the 4800 block of Clara Street.

Deputies tried to stop the Yukon, which had clear signs of having been involved in crashes, but the driver took off, driving through two red lights, Sgt. David Holwager said.

The Yukon collided with a black Honda Accord and a white Toyota 4Runner at Atlantic Avenue and 55th Street, disabling all three vehicles.

The driver was immediately taken into custody and taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was expected to be charged with several felony charges, including drunken driving, authorities said.

Two people suffered minor to moderate injuries and were taken to a hospital.
