Teacher Accused Of Exchanging 'Sext' Messages, Graphic Images With 13-Year-Old Student

LA MIRADA (CBS) — A substitute teacher was in custody Wednesday for allegedly having inappropriate contact with a student.

Taylor Welch, 22, of La Mirada, has been charged with felony lewd acts on a child and distributing obscene materials to a minor.

He is accused of sharing sexually graphic photos, live video feeds and "sext" messages with a 13-year-old student at Hutchinson Middle School.

Welch, who has been substituting at the school since September, is also accused of touching the victim inappropriately after class.

Authorities say he and the girl found each other on Facebook after meeting in class, which led to the exchanging of graphic material.

Parents notified authorities after the victim showed the content to a friend.

Welch has been relieved of his duties at the school and is being held on $140,000 bail.

Authorities believe there may be more victims and are asking anyone with information about the case to contact them.
