After 4 Break-Ins In 4 Months, Pregnant San Bernadino Homeowner Fights Back

SAN BERNARDINO (CBS) — After four break-ins in four months, one San Bernadino homeowner had enough.

Danielle Helmick installed a security camera after the third break-in and is releasing surveillance video in the hopes of identifying her latest burglar.

Helmick told CBS2 and KCAL9 reporter Greg Mills that she's hoping someone recognizes the man. "I don't think he realized there was a camera shining on him."

Fortunately, through the four break-ins, all Helmick has lost is a lap top.

She now has a sophisticated alarm system, video cameras and what Mills calls old-fashioned security: a pit bull and a German Shepherd mix.

A lot of neighbors in the Harrison and Highland area of San Bernardino  have told Helmick they have "seen the guy around."

During the last break-in, Helmick says the would-be burglar smashed a back window to get in. "The alarm went off. The cops responded and either the alarm or the cops scared him away."

Helmick is due to hear the pitter patter of little feet around her house very soon. But this time, not adult pitter patter. Helmick is due to deliver her first baby tomorrow and doesn't want to leave this area she loves in San Bernardino. "I thought about moving," Helmick says, but decided instead to fight back.
