Temecula Valley High Student Arrested For Bringing Gun, Ammo To School

TEMECULA (CBS) — A 16-year-old Temecula Valley High School student brought a gun and ammo to school and was arrested, a sheriff's department spokesman said Saturday.

The teen was showing the gun off to his friends shortly before noon Friday on the Rancho Vista Road campus when another student told a security guard, said sheriff's Sgt. Geoffrey Green.

"The student with the gun was located on the school grounds and quickly detained," Green said. "Officers found an unloaded .22 caliber handgun on the student's waistband and ammunition in one of his pockets.

"The student said he brought the gun to the school to show his friends."

Deputies learned the weapon was registered to the teen's stepfather and had been taken without permission, Green said.

The student was booked into the Southwest Juvenile Hall for suspicion of possession of a firearm on school grounds, he said.
