LOMITA (AP) — Two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies escaped injury when an alleged drunk driver slammed her Toyota into the back of their patrol car during a traffic stop in Lomita.
A department statement says the deputies jumped out of the way just before the collision early Friday. The impact pushed the patrol car forward 20 feet into the detained vehicle. A passenger in the detained vehicle was hospitalized after complaining of pain in her hip.
The driver of the Toyota, 23-year-old Judy Wang of Buena Park, admitted that she had been drinking. After further investigation Wang was arrested for felony DUI.
Sheriff’s officials say the patrol car sustained major damage and will most likely be totaled.
