Corrections Officer Sentenced To 1 Year For Stalking Ex-Girlfriend

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A California corrections officer has been sentenced to a year in jail after pleading no contest to stalking a former girlfriend who broke off their relationship.

Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney Natalie Adomian said Friday that 41-year-old Xavier Renteria was also placed on three years of probation and ordered to pay the victim $4,250 in restitution.

Renteria was arrested in February by sheriff's detectives in the Lancaster bureau. Besides stalking, he was also charged with burglary, making criminal threats and vandalism between December 2011 and February 2012. Those counts were dismissed in the plea agreement.

The victim broke off the romance with Renteria in December.

Superior Court Commissioner Kristi Lousteau issued a 10-year restraining order prohibiting Renteria from any contact with the woman.
