LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — The U.S. women’s national volleyball team, which has already secured a spot in the London Olympics, will hold two public scrimmages in Southern California next month to prepare for the FIVB World Grand Prix.
Irvine Valley College will host the first scrimmage on May 19, and UC Irvine will host the second on May 26.
The World Grand Prix, held in various cities in June, is the last major international competition before the London Games. The Americans are the two-time defending champions in the event.
The U.S. women’s team, ranked No. 1 by volleyball’s international governing body, will also host a three-game exhibition series against Bulgaria in preparation for the Olympics. The first match will be held July 14 at the American Sports Centers, the team’s training headquarters in Anaheim, Calif.
The other two matches will be played July 16 and 18 at USC’s Galen Center.
The team will be coming out of a bronze finish by defeating the Dominican Republic in the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.
