Death Row Inmate Admits He's Guilty Of 1989 Cold Case Murder Of Teen

LONG BEACH  (AP) — A California death row inmate has pleaded guilty to the 1989 strangulation of a 15-year-old Long Beach teenager.

Los Angeles County prosecutor Carol Rose says 50-year-old Royal Clark Jr. entered the plea Wednesday for the first-degree murder of high school sophomore Danielle Marie Haddon.

Rose says Clark will be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole when he's sentenced April 26.

Haddon was alone in the apartment she shared with her grandmother in 1989 when she told a friend on the telephone that she had to answer a knock on the door. Her body was found the next morning.

A DNA hit led to the filing of charges against Clark in December.

Clark is on San Quentin's death row for strangling a 14-year-old Fresno girl in 1995.
