POMONA (CBS) — One person was killed after colliding with a Caltrans truck on the 57 Freeway in Pomona.

The fatal accident occurred on the northbound lanes of the freeway just north of Temple Avenue around 1:55 p.m. Tuesday.

It shut down three lanes of the highway.

The California Highway Patrol says a Caltrans crew was working on the section of the freeway when a Toyota Corolla slammed into a dump truck.

Jeff Nguyen, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, said emergency crews had to use the jaws of life to pull the man out of his car.

CHP officers performed CPR but the driver could not be revived.
