(CBS) -- Since the NHL switched the current playoff format in 1994 — seeding teams 1-8 in a conference format — the #8 seed has upset the #1 seed nine times, with the most recent in 2010 when the Montreal Canadiens beat the Washington Capitals in seven games. All of these series went at least six games.
On Wednesday night at the Staples Center, the Los Angeles Kings will try and become the first 8-seed to sweep a 1-seed in NHL history.
