Moreno Valley Pawn Shop Employee, Dog Disarm Robber

MORENO VALLEY (CBS) — A robbery suspect is behind bars Saturday after being stopped by a store employee and the shop's stubborn dog.

The attempted robbery occurred Friday morning and was captured on tape.

It occurred at the Empire Jewelry and Loan in the 22500 block of Alessandro Boulevard in Moreno Valley.

In surveillance tape obtained by the Riverside Press-Enterprise, the pawn shop worker can be seen struggling with the gunman for the pistol.

The dog, whose name is Capone, rushed in from the back room, ripped a piece from the gunman's shirt and got hold of his pant leg.

The worker and the Rottweiler were able to get outside for help.

KNX 1070's Brian Ping reports that Riverside County Sheriff's spokesman Angel Ramos is glad the victim's response didn't get him into more trouble.

"We don't encourage that but victims have to do sometimes. And everything turned out to be fine this time," Ramos said.

Deputies finally arrested the suspect, identified by authorities, as 34-year-old Hakim Salone.

Salone has been booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of armed robbery, kidnapping, illegal firearm weapon possession, and a gang member enhancement, authorities said.
