VICTORVILLE (CBS) — A 3-year-old girl was attacked by a mastiff while celebrating Easter with her family and she may need surgery to mend her wounds, according to a news report.
Hayleh Harger was at her home when a friend of the family brought the dog, securing the mastiff in the backyard, the Victorville Daily News reported.
The girl had reportedly stepped out of her playhouse when the dog attacked.
Harger’s mother told authorities that when she went outside she found the dog standing on top of the girl as she laid face-down on the ground. Her mother was able to scare off the dog and called 911.
Officials received a call from the home shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday in the 14900 block of Joshua Street, the newspaper reported.
The child suffered cuts to her face which required 100 stitches.
The Daily News reported that there was no word yet on whether the dog was quarantined or held by Victorville Animal Control.
The girl is expected to recover, though a relative told the newspaper that she may require plastic surgery to repair her lip.
