Man Dead, Woman Injured In Possible Gang Party Shooting

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A man was killed and a woman was wounded Sunday evening when gunfire erupted at what police believe was a gang party, authorities said.

The shooting was reported at 8:20 p.m., at 60th Street and 10th Avenue in the Hyde Park area, Sgt. Donni Ellison of the Los Angeles Police Department's 77th Street Station said.

A man -- believed to be about 27 years old -- was pronounced dead after being taken to a a hospital from gunshot wounds to the head and chest. A woman -- about 25 years old -- was hospitalized with a shoulder wound, Ellison said.

Police don't know if there was one shooter or multiple shooters, and whether the shooting started with a dispute inside the party, or if the suspect or suspects went to the house to attack.

"Not too many people are talking," Ellison said.

There were about 200 people at the party when police arrived, he said.
