Driver Of Truck Wanted After Westminster Drag Race Ends In Fatal Crash

WESTMINSTER (CBS) — A young woman is dead and her brother and another man were seriously injured after an apparent street race ended in a crash.

The crash on Hoover Street south of Hazard Avenue about 5 p.m. Thursday was the result of drag racing, Westminster Police Sgt. Cameron Knauerhaze said. A red Toyota compact car and a gray pickup truck with large wheels were racing on Hoover Street when it drifted into an oncoming gray Honda Accord.

The red Toyota collided with the Honda Accord, killing 18-year-old Jessica Dayoan, who was a passenger in the red car. Her brother, 19-year-old Jorel Dayoan, was driving, according to family members who went to the crash site. The siblings were Westminster residents.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, Knauerhaze said.

Jorel Dayoan and the driver of the Honda were taken to trauma centers at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange and Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Marc Stone said.

Police are seeking the driver of the gray pickup truck, which fled the scene.

Police said if investigators find evidence of a street race, the motorists could face criminal charges.
