Get 'Water Wise' This April With Wyland

STUDIO CITY (CBS) — Artist Wyland visited the KCAL9 studios Thursday to talk about his Water Conservation challenge for the month of April.

The Water Conservation challenge is being done in conjunction with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

• Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation, March 30-April 30
The Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation is a good old-fashioned throw down between cities throughout the month of April to see who can be the most water wise. Residents and mayors from every city are encouraged to visit mywaterpledge.com to make commitments to save water, energy and reduce pollution. Participating residents from cities with the highest percentage of people that make pledges qualify to win $50,000 in eco-friendly prizes, including a Toyota Prius c hybrid, water-saving fixtures for home and garden, and hundreds of gift cards for Lowe's Home Improvement stores. Last year, Southern California residents pledged to save nearly a billion gallons of water. The challenge is free at www.mywaterpledge.com

• Earth Month Community Hero Recognition, April 1 - April 30
For 30 days in April, KCBS / KCAL, the Wyland Foundation, and Toyota will recognize people from all walks of life throughout Southern California, from green companies to friends and neighbors who are committed to sustainability, who have gone out of their way to make our environment a better place. As a special thank you, the organizations will donate $250 on behalf of each Earth Month hero to the local environmental charity of their choice.
