LADWP Seeks To Raise Power, Water Rates

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Los Angeles residents may soon have to pay more for both water and power.

The Department of Water and Power is seeking to raise electric rates by 10.5 percent, while water rates could spike 4.9 percent.

The increases would take place over the next two years.

The DWP's general manager says the rate hikes are necessary to meet new legal and regulatory requirements.

The utility says it must also pay for equipment upgrades.
