Jet Blue Passengers Forced To Restrain Captain Undergoing Meltdown

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Passengers aboard a Jet Blue flight bound for Las Vegas said things got turbulent, but not because of flight conditions, when the captain had an apparent emotional meltdown.

Flight 191 took off from New York's JFK Airport and, during the flight, the captain began ranting about a bomb and Al-Qaida.

"We've got Israel, we've got Iraq," he could be heard screaming in video footage taken on a passenger's cell phone.

The captain was locked out of the cockpit by the co-pilot and a flight attendant asked passengers to help restrain him.

Luckily, some of the passengers happened to work in security and were on their way to a security conference in Las Vegas.

They held the captain down until the plane made an emergency landing in Amarillo, Texas, where he was removed by authorities.

"I didn't feel safe until we landed and we had actual handcuffs on him," said passenger David Gonzalez.

Passengers continued on to their destinations in a different Jet Blue plane. That plane is based in Long Beach.

The captain was reportedly undergoing an evaluation Tuesday night.
