Suspect Wanted After Teen Fatally Shot In Whittier

WHITTIER (CBS) — Authorities are searching for at least one gunman after a 17-year-old Hispanic boy was fatally shot in the head Monday afternoon.

The shooting happened in the 9100 block of Painter Avenue in an unincorporated part of Whittier around noon, sheriff's officials said.

Paramedics transported the teen to a local hospital where he was later declared dead.

At least one suspect were seen running from the scene on Painter Avenue toward Telegraph Road, officials said.

Frontier and Sierra Vista high schools were placed on lockdown. The lockdown was later lifted around 2 p.m., sheriff's officials said.

The Whittier Union High School District issued a statement saying that the boy was not a student at any of its campuses.

No additional details or a motive for the shooting were released.
