LOS ANGELES (AP) — A winter storm tracking through Southern California is leaving snowfall in high mountain and desert regions and cold, windy conditions near the coast, as well as scattered power outages throughout the region.

National Weather Service meteorologists said Sunday that chilly conditions are expected to linger through the day. David Sweet says Los Angeles County will see rainfall tapering off but winds of 20 to 30 mph, with afternoon gusts of up to 40 mph.

Mountain areas could see up to a foot of snow throughout the day. Caltrans is advising motorists to carry chains.

Southern California Edison spokeswoman Lauren Bartlett says about 7,500 customers in Orange, Los Angeles and Ventura counties were without power Sunday morning, down from 14,100 Saturday afternoon.
