Shopping Centers, Movie Complex Lose Power Near Marina Del Rey

MARINA DEL REY (CBS) — The power went out at two shopping centers and a movie theater complex near Marina del Rey Sunday.

Los Angeles Department of Water and Power officials traced the outage to a high voltage line that fell near Venice High School, on Venice Boulevard east of Lincoln Boulevard.

DWP crews said the power went out about 1:50 p.m. Officials had no estimate of repair time, or estimate of impact.

Movies ground to a halt at the Regency theaters in the Villa Marine Shopping Center, and patrons were escorted out under emergency lights.

Customers at the underground Gelson's Market on Maxella Avenue were escorted out of the store and the dark parking garage by store employees using flashlights. Stores in both shopping centers at Glencoe at Maxella avenues were closed.

DWP spokeswoman Jane Galbraith said most of the affected properties were either commercial properties or large multifamily units east of the marina.

Electricity in Marina Del Rey itself is delivered by Southern California Edison and was not believed to be affected.
