La Mirada Substitute Teacher Charged In Misdemeanor Child Molesting Case

LA MIRADA (CBS) — A substitute teacher was charged Wednesday with a misdemeanor count of child molesting involving a female student at a La Mirada middle school.

Ted Nishihara, 29, was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Downey Superior Court.

Nishihara was working as a substitute teacher at Los Coyotes Middle School when the crime allegedly occurred March 2, authorities said. The alleged victim is identified only as "Jane Doe."

The girl's mother alleged last week that Nishihara had touched her daughter in a sexual manner during class, according to sheriff's Deputy Mark Pope.

Detectives spoke to students and staff members on Monday before interviewing Nishihara at his home and then taking him into custody, Pope said.

Prosecutors were asking that his bail be set at $20,000.
