Job Corps School Counselor Fatally Stabbed In Hollywood Allegedly By Student

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A counselor at a Job Corps school in Hollywood was fatally stabbed by a student Wednesday, according to officials.

The stabbing occurred about 4:45 p.m., said authorities.

The victim, identified as Dwayne Alexander, 59, later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Alexander was described as a "beloved" school program adviser.

Police have the alleged murderer in custody. He is identified as a 22-year-old student, according to Officer Karen Rayner of the Los Angeles Police Department. The suspect's name has not been released.

Students told us that the suspect's first name is Freddie. They told us he was "having troubles recently." But no one expected him to snap.

Student Jonathan Whitney said he was deeply saddened by the murder because Alexander was such an outstanding person. "It shouldn't have happened. A lot of my friends are devastated because he was a great guy."

The school is located at 1200 N. Lodi Place.

Police have not announced a motive in the attack.
