LAPD Officer Accused Of Stealing From 2nd Job At Luxury Hotel

NEWPORT BEACH (CBS) — A Los Angeles Police officer moonlighting as a hotel security guard was charged with grand theft and burglary.

Jeffry Paul Quinton, 48, of Anaheim Hills, faces one felony count each of grand theft of commercial burglary after being caught on security video stealing from his second job at the Surf and Sand Resort in Laguna Beach, police said.

Police say Quinton used his position as a security guard for the resort to gain access to the hotel's online "lost and found" logging system so he could change logged items and falsely mark them as returned to its owner.

Quinton stole $960 in cash from the lost and found safe and $680 from the security office's safe deposit box, police said, and even stole $290 in bedding from a locked hotel storage room.

Quinton is scheduled to be arraigned March 14 and faces a maximum sentence of three years and eight months in state prison if convicted as charged.
