MALIBU (CBS) — The body of Pepperdine University athletic chaplain Maurice Hilliard was found Monday on a beach in Malibu.

Hilliard’s body was discovered around 9 a.m. near the 2600 block of Pacific Coast Highway, authorities said. The sheriff’s department is investigating the death.

It is unknown how Hilliard died, but investigators believe it was due to an accident or natural causes.

Hilliard had been part of Pepperdine’s staff since 2001, holding positions that included assistant coach for the women’s basketball team, director of operations for the men’s basketball team and academic coordinator.

Since 2010, Hilliard was program director at the university’s Boone Center for the Family.

“Maurice was a precious gift from God,” Pepperdine women’s basketball coach Julie Rousseau said. “We were blessed to have him touch our lives in such a unique way. Things were different around him. The sun shined a little brighter when he was around. Things didn’t seem so bad when he was around.”

    was it Charlie Harper?

Could it have been the 4th man from the capsized boat up near Santa Cruz Island? They said the he was 5 miles away yesterday and then when they went back, he had disappeared.

The jokes are heartless and inappropriate. This man’s family and friends are deep in grief. Imagine if this were your own son.

It makes me feell small just to be reading the postings of these stupid morons. The dead body of a 30 or so year old man is found on the beach & they crack tasteless fool minded jokes. You’d think they were red necks and hicks with inferior thought processes. Come to think of it, they are.

read what you just wrote you down them for their remarks which i agree are not right, but then you make an un-needed remark about RED NECKS AND HICKS which is 2 common terms for people of southern decent. just because someone is from a rual area does not mean they are inferior.

Obviously you put yourself in that category. You should feel small because you are. Doesn’t say much for your thought process, or lack thereof.
BTW, what is an “athletic chaplain”? Never heard of that position before.

    You’re right, John.

This man was a beautiful soul and an incredible friend and person. Such tasteless comments are disgusting and an insult to his memory and to those who loved him. Maurice was a mentor and counselor to all people. He gave aid to damaged souls and helped them find their paths in life. He was an angel on this earth and should be respected as a human being. Those of us who knew him well, can only hope to be 1/100th of the person he was. Maurice was LOVE and therefore deserves LOVE now.
