Royals Reliever Broxton Pitches In 'B' Game

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Kansas City Royals reliever Jonathan Broxton tested his surgically repaired right elbow in a 'B' game against the Texas Rangers on Sunday, allowing three of the five batters he faced to reach base in his first outing since May.

Broxton threw 27 pitches. He walked two and gave up a single in his debut for Kansas City. Broxton had arthroscopic elbow surgery in September to remove bone chips while with the los Angeles Dodgers.

Broxton said his elbow felt fine and sees no reason he wouldn't be able to be ready for the Royals' April 6 opener.

A key free agent signing in the offseason, Broxton said he felt rusty, having not pitched in the majors since May 3.

He is scheduled to pitch an inning Wednesday against Seattle.
